I was deeply saddened this evening when I received news that Ron Veale, our Alberta Director had passed away. He left this earth in Calgary on the morning of November 23.

Rocketry was truly one of Ron's great passions. He never declined a request to help and always fully applied his great intellect towards any task he participated in. His warm and friendly nature made him truly one of the finest people in our community. Beyond working within our national organization, Ron was always committed and made time to help our younger members. He will be greatly missed.

His passing has touched our whole family. Though we live a province away, we were blessed to be able to call him our friend. Ron had visited us several times including joining us for an Easter and a Christmas.

On behalf of my family and the CAR/ACF, I wish to offer our condolences to Ron's family and friends.

Ron, I pray you may rest in peace.



Triste nouvelle

J’ai été grandement attristé d’apprendre le décès de Ron Veale, notre administrateur pour l’Alberta. Il a quitté notre terre au matin du 23 novembre 2015.

La fuséonautique était une des grandes passions de Ron. Il n’a jamais refusé une demande d’aide et a toujours contribué avec intelligence aux tâches auxquelles in participait. Sa nature amicale et la chaleur humaine qu’il démontrait constamment faisaient de lui une des personnes les plus attachantes de notre communauté. En plus de son implication au niveau national de notre association, il trouvait toujours le moyen de s’investir auprès des plus jeunes membres. Il nous manquera grandement.

Son décès a touché toute notre famille. Bien qu’il résidait dans la province voisine, nous étions fier de le considérer comme un ami. Il nous a visité à quelques reprises et s’est même joint à nous pour une Pâque et un Noël.

Au nom des membres du CAR/ACF et en mon nom personnel ainsi que celui de ma famille, je désire offrir nos plus sincères condoléances à la famille et aux amis de Ron.

As you are no doubt aware the Canadian / US exchange rate has changed drastically in the past year. The change has impacted many industries and organizations, and we are no exception.

The Sport Rocketry subscription service we provide requires us to purchase magazines from the publisher in US$. To make a long story short the current rate we are charging does not cover our costs. As a result, we are forced to raise the price of the Sport Rocketry subscription service to $54.50 / year. This price increase is effective immediately and applies to new or renewal subscriptions. Those of you that have current subscriptions will not be affected until such time as your current subscription expires.
We don’t like to raise prices on any service, but we can’t in good conscience have the general membership subsidizing a service that is not used by everyone.

Comme vous le savez déjà, le taux de change entre le dollar canadien et le dollar US a considérablement changé au cours des dernières années. Cette fluctuation a des impacts sur l’industrie et sur les organisations et nous ne faisons pas exception.

L’abonnement à The Sport Rocketery que nous offrons nécessite l’achat de magazines en dollars US. Ce que nous chargeons actuellement ne couvre pas le coût réel. Nous devons donc majorer le prix de l’abonnement à 54.50$. Cette tarification s’applique dès maintenant à tout nouvel abonnement ou renouvellement. Ceux qui ont un abonnement en cours ne seront affectés qu’à son expiration.

Nous n’aimons pas augmenter les tarifs mais on ne peut avoir un service qui est n’est pas utilisé par tous être subventionné par l’ensemble des membres.

It is with great pleasure that I am able to announce that the CAR/ACF RSO Training Program document is complete and has been submitted to Transport Canada for review.

This is a process that was first envisioned more than a decade ago. It was belayed by changes to the program and changes to the CAR/ACF. Countless people have contributed their time and efforts towards this end and I am very grateful to all.

Special thanks go to Pierre Laurendeau who during his term as president guided this project forward. If not for Pierre's efforts, this document would likely still be in the works.

Major contributions also came from Kevin Drayson and Chris Dietlein. Also the RSO Committee.

Thank you to all those others who are too many in number to name.


C’est avec plaisir que je vous informe que le programme de formation des RSO du CAR/ACF a été complété et soumis à Transport Canada pour fin d’évaluation.

Ce projet a débuté il y a plus d’une décennie. Il y a eu de nombreux changements dans le programme de même qu’au CAR /ACF. De nombreuses personnes ont contribué de leur temps et de leurs efforts pour atteindre ce résultat et je les en remercie.

It is my pleasure to announce the BOD have voted to approve the formation of a translation committee. The vote also confirmed Yves Dufour as the Chairman of this new committee.

They will be tasked with translating announcements, communication to the government, CAR/ACF documents and processes. All this will take some time.

We continue to commit to our goal of providing services to our members in both official languages.


J’ai le plaisir de vous annoncer que le conseil d’administration a approuvé la formation d’un comité de traduction. Il a également approuvé la nomination de M. Yves Dufour comme directeur de ce comité.

Le comité aura pour tâche de traduire les annonces, les communications avec le gouvernement ainsi que la documentation et procédures du CAR/ACF. Le tout prendra un certain temps.

Nous nous engageons à poursuivre notre objectif d’offrir à nos membres des services dans les deux langues officielles.
